What is a Speakeasy
A speakeasy is a hidden bar that started during Prohibition. Today, it’s any secret-style spot with a disguised entrance and an unforgettable vibe.
Why are you called “The Blind Pig Pilot Podcast”
“Blind Pig” was slang for secret bars in the 1920s, and we’re pilots who love finding modern ones.
How do you find Speakeasies?
Sometimes it’s research, sometimes it’s word of mouth, and sometimes it’s just luck. We dig through hidden websites, follow local whispers, and keep an eye out for unmarked doors in unexpected places. Half the fun of a speakeasy is the hunt, and we love sharing that discovery with our listeners. If you know a hidden gem we should check out, send it our way — we just might feature it on the podcast.
How do you review a Speakeasy?
We use our own patented Blind Pig Rubric. Each speakeasy is graded on a 1–10 scale in five categories: the entrance, the atmosphere, the bartenders, the quality of drinks, and a miscellaneous category for those extra touches that make a place stand out. Add it all up, and that’s how we decide if a speakeasy earns the Blind Pig stamp of approval.
Why aviation and speakeasies?
We met when we were both aircraft mechanics, and aviation has always been at the center of our lives. As we chase our dream of airline flying and backcountry adventures, we also chase the hidden world of speakeasies. The two are more connected than you’d think — during Prohibition, aviation was still young, barnstormers were taking to the skies, and rumrunners used planes to smuggle liquor. Just like back then, today we see aviation and speakeasies as symbols of adventure, risk, and discovery.
